Meet Amanda Ramirez

Hi everyone-

My name is Amanda Ramirez. I am a senior at Curry majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology.

I am originally from San Antonio. I love Texas, but over the past several years I have grown attached to New England. My mom thinks it’s funny when I am back in Texas for break, but still call Curry home. But that’s because over the past several years, I have created a support system at Curry. Between my friends, my friends’ families, my teachers, my advisor, and the Office of Student Activities, I have created my own little Curry family.

Coming from Texas, one of the biggest shocks to me has been the weather. It snows a lot, and I have no idea how to drive in the snow. I talked to Curry’s Police Chief and he gave me a few tips. He also volunteered to take me out to a parking lot and try to teach me how to maneuver the car correctly. Just one example of how everyone at Curry is so nice and willing to help - it's amazing.

Speaking of snow and winter, this past Friday, my little sister, from the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter, wanted to go ice skating with her friends. So, we went to Ulin Hockey Rink, right down the street from Curry. During hockey season, the Student Activities Office sponsors a fan van bus to the game, but we just decided to drive. Anyways, my lack of coordination and balance made ice skating a little difficult. I tried holding onto the wall the entire time (see picture below), but I still ended up falling in front of the entire Curry College Hockey Team, no biggy.

Well, I have to be on my way now, I need to stop by the Kennedy Lab to print a paper and then it is off to my peer teaching for Counseling Theory with Dr.Kahn. I highly recommend his course for anyone interested in Psychology.

Till next time...
