Welcome Week Rewind

This year's Welcome Week had a special feel to it. New students were treated to a wide range of activities, many of which took place in the new student center. In addition to performances by local bands, a hypnotist and a comedian, new students danced the night away on a late-night Boston Harbor cruise and honed their poker skills at the black light casino night. Take a peak at some of the action that started the Fall 2009 semester.

Hey Everyone!

My name is Sofia Coon and I am from upstate New York. I just transferred to Curry from Syracuse and let me tell you, it’s probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life. I’ve been living here for almost three weeks and I have become involved with so many clubs/organizations, met so many new people, and absolutely love my classes. Curry turned out to be the perfect place for me! I am going to be updating the blog frequently so that all of you out there can read what its like to be a transfer (or even a new student) here at Curry.

I’m 19 years old and transferred in as a junior. I’m majoring in Communications with a Minor in Biology. Odd combo I know, but it's the things I’m most interested in. I also love to dance and perform - two things Curry offers.

In the last three weeks I’ve managed to do a lot! I landed a part time job in admissions giving tours, became the Student Government Association Representative for Student Ambassadors (a group of students who help with open houses), and was given the role of the Nurse in “Romeo and Juliet” (learn more about Curry Theater). Some of the other clubs I hope to join include the Ski Club and ONE Curry. And lets not forget that I am taking 18 credits, while still some how having enough time to eat , sleep, workout and get all my homework done.

Some of the reasons I decided to transfer to Curry were because of the small size of Curry (2000 students), its close proximity to one of the best cities in New England - Boston, and the calming, accepting vibe I felt when I walked onto this campus. Curry may be small, but it’s definitely got the heart. The faculty here gives their 100 percent to make this place the best that it can be.

So much to talk about and so little space! If any of you reading have questions – leave a comment! I’ll try my best to respond ASAP.

The Center of Campus

In the few short months since its grand opening, the new student center has already hosted a US Congressional event, a series of Reebok/NFL commercials featuring players from the NY Jets (see previous post), a comedian from the popular TV show, The Last Comic Standing and a New Student Convocation.

But it isn't just the large events that have made the student center truly the center of campus activity. It's where the everyday routines of students take place, from exercising in the state-of-the-art fitness center, to meeting classmates for lunch in the dining marketplace, to shopping for Curry gear in the expanded clothing line in the new bookstore.

So if you haven't been to campus lately, I suggest you plan your visit today! But don't be surprised if your campus tour passes through an impromptu club meeting in the fireplace lounge or gets caught in the cheers of a long running New England sports rivalry in the sports cafe. It's just another day in the Curry College Student Center.
